Hi! I’m Jess Thompson, the face behind the brand “Let’s Jess Be Here LLC!”
My yoga and meditation practice began eleven years ago, when I was a seventeen year old high school student. At that time, I was navigating an difficult part of my life, feeling lost and depressed, and living in what I now understand was a chronically traumatized body. I was put into Yoga as an elective class. I remember my teenage self marching down to the office to try to (unsuccessfully) replace the class with culinary cooking. “Just being here” was new to me and I had no interest in Yoga - I didn’t even know what it was. Begrudgingly, I participated in the class.
Although initially hesitant, I soon fell in love with the movement and breath and began to regularly take hot yoga classes at the local studio in town. The feeling I experienced afterward was the closest I’ve ever been to peace, and I kept returning to the mat over and over again. I began to feel love and compassion for myself and found a community of people I felt understood me. Little did I know, I would commit my life to the path of Yoga.
In 2018, I graduated from the Yoga Spirit 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training and began teaching others about the practice that transformed my life. (I ended up completing my yoga teacher training program with the very same woman who taught me my first yoga class in that high school art room!)
Since obtaining my teaching certification I have led team bonding corporate classes, mindfulness classes for high school and middle school students, yoga to support addiction recovery and sober living, mobility and strength classes for sports teams and runners clubs, classes for non-profit organizations, earth day inspired park clean up yoga classes, virtual sessions with students all over the world - and in rooms with up to 100 students at a time. (I’ve even taught yoga with goats!) Over the past five years, I have created a loyal network of private clients and served as a therapeutic mentor to children and teens: teaching coping skills through mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, and yoga modalities. From teaching donation-based yoga classes, I was able to raise $2,800 for The LoveLand Foundation - an organization that financially supports black women and girls to receive therapy.
In 2020, I received an additional 300 hours of yoga teacher training and earned a breath coaching certification. And the learning never stops!
I am a mental health advocate and proud member of CAIPA - the council against institutional and psychiatric abuse through the disability law center of Massachusetts, advocating for humane treatment and care to those seeking mental health care.
I currently teach at six different Yoga studios, including Open Doors in Norwell, East Bridgewater, and Weymouth, Tag Team Wellness, Joy of Yoga, and Whitman Wellness Center. I am endlessly grateful to share my passion for yoga and mindfulness with students from all walks of life and to be a part of these vibrant and welcoming communities.
As of August 2023 - I am the proud owner of Let’s Jess Be Here LLC - a yoga and mindfulness brand that offers private sessions, on site classes, international and domestic retreats - and it’s just the beginning.
My teaching style allows students to unfold limitations in both their body and mind while providing a space for them to feel a sense of peace within. I weave thought provoking meditations and mindful breathwork throughout my classes, applying ancient wisdom to our western world in a useful and understandable way.
My hope is that you will leave your mat finding peace, empowerment, and self-acceptance through yoga, just as I have.
With gratitude,
Jess
